Basketball Recap: South Miami Comes Up Short

South Miami was the 71-68 winner over Killian when they last played one another back in February of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. The South Miami Cobras were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 55-54 to the Killian Cougars. The Cobras have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why South Miami lost, don't look at Victor Dominguez. Despite the final result, he posted 17 points in addition to eight assists and eight steals. Dominguez's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Torres, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 13 points and three steals.

It was another big night for Derico Taylor, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds for Killian. Taylor has been hot, having posted 16 or more points the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dylan Caled, who had six points and eight boards.

South Miami's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Killian, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-3.

South Miami wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, an 81-61 loss against TERRA Environmental on the 19th. As for Killian, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Goleman at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
