Basketball Preview: Morenci Wildcats vs. Pima Roughriders
Morenci is 0-10 against the Roughriders since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Morenci Wildcats will look to defend their home court against the Pima Roughriders at 5:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Morenci comes in on three and the Roughriders on seven.
Morenci scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 83-19 victory over San Miguel on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Morenci has managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Morenci to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elena Leonard, who scored 20 points along with five steals. Leonard is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 20 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayla Wilson, who scored ten points along with eight assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, Pima can now show off 14 landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Thursday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 79-6 victory over Santa Rita. While fans of Pima might be used to big wins, the 73-point margin marked the team's biggest victory yet this season.
Morenci is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season. As for Pima, they pushed their record up to 20-3 with that victory, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season.
