Baseball Game Preview: Madison Trojans vs. Clinton Redwolves

For the second straight game, Madison will face off against Clinton. The Trojans will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Redwolves at 4:00 p.m. Madison is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.

Madison is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Clinton just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Redwolves. The Trojans were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the four contests prior), but the Redwolves' pitcher proved too tough.

Cole Grof was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Madison saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brian Dopp, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Dopp is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games he's played.

Clinton is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Madison, their loss dropped their record down to 18-3.
