Softball Game Preview: Patrick County Cougars vs. James River Knights

The Patrick County Cougars will head out to challenge the James River Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Patrick County will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

On Thursday, Patrick County earned a 6-3 win over Carroll County.

Jenna Woods spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Journey Moore was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Hazelwood, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, James River lost 18-2 to Alleghany on Friday. The Knights have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Patrick County pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. As for James River, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

Patrick County came out on top in a nail-biter against James River when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 10-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
