Basketball Recap: South Bend Adams Comes Up Short

South Bend Adams was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 59-46 to the Portage Indians. The Eagles were not able to make up for their loss to the Indians from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why South Bend Adams lost, don't look at Lemonz Jones. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 9 on his way to 13 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Thanks to that strong game, Jones now owns an excellent 46.4% shooting accuracy. Jarvis Tolbert was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Portage's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sam Wellman, who posted 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That's the most steals Wellman has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was O'Mari Evans, who earned 17 points.

South Bend Adams' defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Portage, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.

South Bend Adams and Portage should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. South Bend Adams will take on New Prairie at 7:30 p.m. on Friday up 295 places (100 vs. 395). South Bend Adams is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.6 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Portage (ranked 34th) will meet Lake Station Edison (ranked 414th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
