Basketball Game Preview: Cumberland Pirates vs. Robinson Maroons

The Cumberland Pirates will square off against the Robinson Maroons at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Friday, Cumberland came up short against Martinsville and fell 40-33.

Meanwhile, Robinson had to suffer through a 77-41 loss at the hands of St. Anthony. While losing is never fun, the Maroons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 558th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 79th).

Cumberland's defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.9 points over those games. As for Robinson, their loss dropped their record down to 5-24.

Cumberland didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Robinson when the teams last played back in January of 2019, but they still walked away with a 69-63 victory. Will Cumberland repeat their success, or does Robinson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
