Baseball Game Preview: Oakwood Lumberjacks vs. Valley View Spartans

For the second straight game, Oakwood will face off against Valley View. The Lumberjacks will host the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Oakwood has ten straight wins, Valley View has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Oakwood barely beat Valley View the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lumberjacks put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 12-1 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Lumberjacks, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Nate Patterson was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josh Tribble, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Leo Holzberg, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Oakwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Oakwood's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Valley View, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
