Basketball Game Preview: Mercy Monarchs vs. Gross Catholic Cougars

The Mercy Monarchs will head out on the road to face off against the Gross Catholic Cougars at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Mercy is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

Mercy will head into Tuesday's match hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 24-point drubbing they dealt Lincoln Lutheran on Tuesday. Mercy put the hurt on Lincoln Lutheran with a sharp 56-32 win. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Monarchs had established a 20 point advantage.

Meanwhile, Gross Catholic didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Platteview on Saturday, but they still walked away with a 52-48 victory.

The win got Mercy back to even at 6-6. As for Gross Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.

Mercy came up short against Gross Catholic in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 44-35. Can Mercy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
