Softball Recap: Durham Academy Takes a Loss

Durham Academy had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 7-8-1 to make it six. They came up short against the Voyager Academy Vikings, falling 11-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 last Friday.

Whitney Wiles was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

As for Voyager Academy, their record now sits at 2-7. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

On Voyager Academy's side, Ella Bartes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, Reese Minor was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Maleyva Pardo, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Durham Academy will welcome Thales Academy Apex at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Cavaliers will need to watch out since the Titans have now posted at least ten runs in their last four games. Voyager Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
