Baseball Recap: Gulf Coast Comes Up Short

Gulf Coast fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Mariner on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mariner Tritons by a score of 6-5. That's two games in a row now that the Sharks have lost by just one run.

Jonathan Kacinas was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Preston Compton, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Gulf Coast is on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2. As for Mariner, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-0.

Looking ahead, Gulf Coast will be playing in front of their home fans against Palmetto Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Gulf Coast has played (dating back to last season) have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Mariner, they will head out to challenge Charlotte at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
