Baseball Game Preview: Monroe County Falcons vs. Barren County Trojans

Monroe County hasn't had much luck against Barren County recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Falcons will challenge the Trojans at 5:30 p.m. Monroe County has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Monroe County came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 14-0 to Franklin-Simpson.

Monroe County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Travis Wood, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base. Wade Carnahan also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Barren County waltzed into their contest on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Cougars.

Landon Uhles looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Skylar Potter was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Harris, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Barren County pushed their record up to 12-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Monroe County, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

Monroe County might still be hurting after the 11-2 defeat they got from Barren County when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
