Basketball Game Preview: Nucla Mustangs vs. Telluride Miners

The Nucla Mustangs will face off against the Telluride Miners at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Nucla is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.3 points per game this season.

Nucla took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They took down Ouray 65-48. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won three in a row.

It was another big night for Brycen Rummel, who shot 5-for-8 from downtown and dropped a triple-double with 19 points, 16 boards, and ten assists. He has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 38 times he's played. Austin Garvey was another key player, going 6-for-10 on his way to 16 points.

Nucla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. They are 12-2 when they hit their own glass that hard.

Meanwhile, Telluride was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 56-50 heartbreaker at the hands of Ridgway.

Telluride's defeat dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Nucla, their victory bumped their record up to 15-7.

Nucla was able to grind out a solid win over Telluride in their previous matchup on February 7th, winning 66-54. Does Nucla have another victory up their sleeve, or will Telluride turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
