Basketball Recap: SA Roosevelt Falls Despite Big Games from Kayani Zackary and Maddie Castillo

SA Roosevelt lost against Reagan back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The SA Roosevelt Rough Riders took a 49-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Reagan Rattlers. While losing is never fun, the Rough Riders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 839th, while the Rattlers are ranked 240th).

Despite the defeat, SA Roosevelt had strong showings from Maddie Castillo, who posted 13 points and five rebounds, and Kayani Zackary, who earned ten points. The dominant performance gave Zackary a new career-high in points. Mary Nguyen also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Kaylee Bindseil was the offensive standout of the contest as she had nine points and five steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Bria Glosson, who scored six points.

SA Roosevelt has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season. As for Reagan, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 16-12 record.

SA Roosevelt wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 72-16 loss against Johnson on the 24th. Reagan has also already played their next contest, a 55-24 win against Madison on the 24th.
