Baseball Game Preview: Torrey Pines Falcons vs. La Costa Canyon Mavericks

The Torrey Pines Falcons will face off against the La Costa Canyon Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Torrey Pines fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against San Marcos on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights. The Falcons' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Dylan Camren was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Torrey Pines saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryder Young, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but La Costa Canyon ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Carlsbad.

Torrey Pines now has a losing record of 10-11. As for La Costa Canyon, their win bumped their record up to 11-8.

Torrey Pines skirted past La Costa Canyon 6-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mavericks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
