Basketball Recap: Horizon Comes Up Short

Horizon came into this matchup off a tough 27-point defeat last Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Red Mountain Mountain Lions by a score of 62-59 on Wednesday. The Huskies were not able to make up for their loss to the Mountain Lions from their previous meeting back in January of 2025.

Despite the loss, Horizon still got an impressive performance from Ethan Hayes, who shot 53% from the field to rack up 27 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The Huskies are 2-1 when Hayes posts 20 or more points, but 5-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Owen Brackmann, who went 7-for-8 en route to 17 points and six rebounds.

Horizon has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Red Mountain, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Horizon will take on Paradise Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Red Mountain, they will face off against Skyline at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mountain Lions will be up against the Coyotes' rather soft defense (which has allowed 60.31 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
