Baseball Recap: Dixie Has No Trouble Against Catholic Central

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dixie). They blew past the Catholic Central Irish 22-1 on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Brayden Puckett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Puckett was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Dixie is undefeated when Puckett posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, Garrett Williams and Noah Thompson did most of the damage at the plate: Williams went 2-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple, while Thompson went 3-for-5 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs. Thompson has become a key player for Dixie: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 1-3 otherwise. Landry Broyles also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Dixie was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .552. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Dixie now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Catholic Central, their loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-18.

Looking ahead, Dixie will face off against Houston at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Catholic Central, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Yellow Springs at 1:00 p.m. The Irish's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
