High school football: Top 10 toughest playoff brackets

SoCal's CIF Southern Section Division 1 bracket takes the top spot with five MaxPreps Top 25 teams in it.

It is officially win or go home time in high school football as every state will be in the playoffs this week except for Alaska, which crowned its state champions in October. 

In our look at the nation's toughest postseason brackets, California's Southern Section Division 1 bracket checks in at No. 1. The eight-team field features five MaxPreps Top 25 teams in No. 4 St. John Bosco (Bellflower), No. 5 Centennial (Corona), No. 6 Mater Dei (Santa Ana), No. 7 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) and No. 12 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita). The remaining three teams are all featured in our expanded top 100 in No. 29 Mission Viejo, No. 66 Servite (Anaheim) and No. 72 Orange Lutheran (Orange)

All four quarterfinal contests Friday night can be seen simultaneously via MaxPreps Playoff Pulse and the NFHS Network.




Georgia's AAAAAA field takes the No. 2 spot. It is headlined by No. 2 Grayson (Loganville), No. 9 Buford and No. 13 Carrollton

The Peach State's AAAAA bracket also made the list, checking in at No. 5 as it features five teams in our expanded top 100 in No. 35 Langston Hughes (Fairburn), No. 38 Thomas County Central (Thomasville), No. 43 Roswell, No. 45 Gainesville and No. 50 Milton.

Texas has the most featured with four led by the both 6A brackets checking in at No. 3 and No. 4.
