Volleyball Recap: Shady Spring Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Musselman

Shady Spring faced Musselman in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Tigers fell just short of the Applemen by a score of 2-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Applemen: they've now lost six in a row.

The 2-1 doesn't really show just how close this match was: all the sets Shady Spring lost were decided by three points or less. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-22, 20-18.

Alivia Stover paced Shady Spring's offense, picking up 11 kills. Stover got some help from Reagan Mann and her 11 assists. Alessandra (Allie) Fragile controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Musselman had a senior duo take command as Alycia Miller had 19 digs and three aces and Bianca Hutzler had 18 assists and six digs. Miller has been hot for a while, having posted 12 or more digs the last 12 times she's played. Leah Dunham also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Shady Spring's loss dropped their record down to 28-9-1. As for Musselman, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-6.

Shady Spring didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Morgantown on the 4th. As for Musselman, they have also already played their next match, a 2-0 loss against Cabell Midland on the 4th.
