Soccer Game Preview: Southlake Carroll vs. Byron Nelson

The Southlake Carroll Dragons will venture away from home to challenge the Byron Nelson Bobcat at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Byron Nelson will be up against a hot Southlake Carroll team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. Southlake Carroll's defense stepped up to hand Keller Central a 6-0 shutout on Friday. Given the Dragons' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Chargers are ranked 56th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Byron Nelson waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Chargers 5-0. Give the Bobcat's defense some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

Southlake Carroll pushed their record up to 12-1-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up three goals over those nine games. As for Byron Nelson, their win bumped their record up to 7-4-1.

Everything went Southlake Carroll's way against Byron Nelson in their previous matchup back in January, as Southlake Carroll made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southlake Carroll since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
