Baseball Recap: Mercer County Comes Up Short

Mercer County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Jessamine Colts. If the Titans were looking for revenge after losing 10-0 to the Colts when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Ayden Stephens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mercer County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter Devine, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Mercer County's record now sits at 13-12. As for West Jessamine, their victory bumped their record up to 9-17-1.

While Mercer County had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
