Softball Game Preview: Johnsburg Skyhawks vs. Richmond-Burton Rockets

Johnsburg hasn't had much luck against Richmond-Burton recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Skyhawks will host the Rockets at 4:30 p.m.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Johnsburg and Harvard, and Harvard kept the tradition alive. The Skyhawks came up short against the Hornets on Thursday, falling 8-1.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Richmond-Burton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Antioch 7-6.

Madison Kunzer made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over eight innings while giving up six earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since April 1st.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rebecca Lanz, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Gabby Hird was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run and one double.

Johnsburg's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Richmond-Burton, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6-1 record this season.

Johnsburg came out on top in a nail-biter against Richmond-Burton in their previous meeting on April 8th, sneaking past 1-0. Do the Skyhawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rockets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
