Baseball Recap: Montgomery Has No Trouble Against Manville

Montgomery came into Wednesday's match having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against the Manville Mustangs by a score of 5-2 on Wednesday. That three run margin sets a new team best for the Cougars this season.

Jake Hayes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Montgomery is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 1-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Alex Bender and Michael Englert did most of the damage at the plate: Bender went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base, while Englert went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Bender a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Henry Maddox, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Montgomery's win bumped their record up to 4-11. As for Manville, they moved to 9-6 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montgomery will square off against Hillsborough at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Manville, they will face off against Whippany Park at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
