Softball Game Preview: Rio Hondo Prep Kares vs. University Trojans

The Rio Hondo Prep Kares will take on the University Trojans at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Rio Hondo Prep is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They put the hurt on Adelanto with a sharp 22-11 win. Winning may never get old, but the Kares sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Rio Hondo Prep got a massive performance out of TARA RILEY, who went 3-for-5 with one home run and five runs. Those five runs gave RILEY a new career-high. Another player making a difference was SAM MONTEZ, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Rio Hondo Prep lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

University came out on top against Ramona Convent on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run sixth inning. The Trojans blew past the Tigers 10-2. The victory was familiar territory for the Trojans, who have now won four matchups in a row.

Carson Cruz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Cruz was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Sophia Weinberg and Alexandra McBride did most of the damage at the plate: Weinberg went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs, while McBride went 4-for-5 with one run and one RBI. Maiko Shiraiwa was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Rio Hondo Prep's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for University, their record now sits at 15-10.
