Softball Recap: Los Lunas Drops Highest Score of Season Against Rio Grande

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Los Lunas). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Rio Grande Ravens a 19-0 shutout on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Ravens: they've now won six in a row.

Ashley Baca was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jaslene Duran and Natalie Madrid did most of the damage at the plate: Duran went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Madrid went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Duran a new career-high. Halie Delgado was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Los Lunas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .615. They are a perfect 12-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Los Lunas pushed their record up to 17-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Rio Grande, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.

Los Lunas has already played their next contest, an 8-3 victory against Albuquerque on the 29th. As for Rio Grande, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 13-1 loss against Albuquerque Academy on the 26th.
