Basketball Recap: Irmo Comes Up Short

Irmo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. The game between them and the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes didn't end well, with the Irmo Yellow Jackets falling 60-44. The Yellow Jackets were not able to make up for their defeat to the Silver Foxes from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Irmo saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tanner McCray posted 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McCray has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb Copeland, who had four points.

Dutch Fork found their leader in sophomore Samajae Govan, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 21 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Govan a new career-high in points. Justus Bell was another key player, going 5 of 7 en route to 13 points and five boards.

Irmo's defeat dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Dutch Fork, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Irmo has already played their next match (against Chapin), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Dutch Fork is taking a road trip to take on River Bluff at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. River Bluff will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Dutch Fork surely won't give up without a fight.
