Softball Game Preview: La Costa Canyon Mavericks vs. Grossmont Foothillers

The La Costa Canyon Mavericks will take on the Grossmont Foothillers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. La Costa Canyon will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

La Costa Canyon made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Academy of Our Lady of Peace, but they still couldn't quite topple them. La Costa Canyon put the hurt on Academy of Our Lady of Peace with a sharp 7-0 win on Monday. That looming 7-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Mavericks yet this season.

The team relied heavily on Malia Whitehouse, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Addy Brown was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

La Costa Canyon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Academy of Our Lady of Peace only posted a batting average of .130.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Saturday Grossmont sidestepped Mission Hills for a 4-3 victory.

Saraya Roope made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That home run was her first of the season.

Roope wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Ennis, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

La Costa Canyon pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Grossmont, their record is now 3-6-1.
