Football Recap: South View Takes a Loss

South View entered their contest against St. Pauls on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Tigers were just a hair shy of victory and fell 27-26 to the Bulldogs. While the Tigers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bulldogs 6-0 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, South View still got an impressive performance from Cristian Simmons, who rushed for 160 yards and three scores while picking up 8.4 yards per carry, and also picked up 36 receiving yards. Simmons is becoming a predictor of the Tigers' success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is 3-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

St. Pauls' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Yoshua McBryde led the charge by rushing for 140 yards and one TD. Malikah Locklear was in the mix as well, providing the Bulldogs with two touchdowns.

South View's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-4. As for St. Pauls, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-1.

That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Simmons and Jayson Franklin. Meanwhile, St. Pauls is set to take on their familiar foe Douglas Byrd at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
