Baseball Game Preview: Gloucester Dukes vs. Lakeland Cavaliers

The Gloucester Dukes will square off against the Lakeland Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Gloucester will be strutting in after a victory while Lakeland will be coming in after a defeat.

On Thursday, it was close, but Gloucester sidestepped Menchville for a 3-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Dukes.

Trevor Richardson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Gloucester's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hank Hardaway, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, Lakeland came up short against Indian River on Thursday and fell 7-4. The Cavaliers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gloucester pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.75 runs across that stretch. As for Lakeland, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

Everything went Gloucester's way against Lakeland in their previous matchup back in April of 2015, as Gloucester made off with an 8-0 victory. Do the Dukes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cavaliers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
