Softball Recap: Marlborough Drops Season-High Score on South

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Marlborough). They put the hurt on the South Colonels with a sharp 18-3 victory on Monday. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Colonels recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Shauna Bopp made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Avery Horrigan was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with four runs and three RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Erin Seder, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Marlborough was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Marlborough's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for South, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Coming up, Marlborough will face off against Groton-Dunstable at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Crusaders have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for South, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against St. Paul at 3:30 p.m.
