Football Recap: Hayli Mcilroy's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Crean Lutheran over Yorba Linda

If Crean Lutheran was feeling good fresh off their 37-6 takedown of Canyon Springs on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Saints took a 34-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yorba Linda Mustangs on Saturday.

Crean Lutheran's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hayli McIlroy, who picked up 45 receiving yards and one score, and also threw for 160 yards and one touchdown. Allyson Schmida was another key receiver, gaining 142 total yards.

Even if they lost, Crean Lutheran's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Riley Paik and Isabella Desantis, who racked up four sacks between them. Crean Lutheran got some further help from Paige Olson: she picked up a sack and made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Crean Lutheran's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Yorba Linda, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Crean Lutheran has already played their next match, an 18-12 win against San Dimas on the 9th. As for Yorba Linda, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 20-19 defeat against Trabuco Hills on the 9th.
