Baseball Recap: Red Mesa Comes Up Short

Red Mesa extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-10 in the process. They lost 24-1 to the El Capitan Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-1 on Friday.

Red Mesa saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Darrius Hot, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.

As for El Capitan, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

On El Capitan's side, Paul Woods made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Woods has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of El Capitan's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Jairus Hammon was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March. Lewis Hammon also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Looking ahead, Red Mesa will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Fredonia at 12:00 p.m. El Capitan does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
