Baseball Game Preview: Morenci Wildcats vs. Benson Bobcats

Morenci hasn't had much luck against Benson recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. Morenci is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.

Morenci will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Desert Christian, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 14-8 margin over the Eagles on Thursday.

Shane Seballos was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Morenci's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 10-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jaymz Guzzo, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Morenci kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.2.

Meanwhile, Benson fell victim to ALA - West Foothills and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Guardians, falling 13-0.

Benson's defeat dropped their record down to 12-11-1. As for Morenci, their record is now 12-13.

Morenci couldn't quite get it done against Benson in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 9-5. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
