Baseball Game Preview: Taylor Titans vs. Clinton Prairie Gophers

The Taylor Titans will head out on the road to challenge the Clinton Prairie Gophers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Taylor has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with ten straight defeats, while Clinton Prairie will come in with three straight victories.

Taylor couldn't beat Carroll on Tuesday even though they stacked seven runs on them in the fourth inning. The Titans came up short against the Cougars, falling 17-7.

Meanwhile, Clinton Prairie hadn't done well against Carroll recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Gophers walked away with a 9-6 win over the Cougars. While the Gophers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Kye Jacobs was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Jacobs was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, two stolen bases, and three runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ben Schlicher was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Price, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Clinton Prairie lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 7-3. As for Taylor, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.

Taylor couldn't quite get it done against Clinton Prairie in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
