Football Recap: South Mountain Comes Up Short

South Mountain extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-3. They took a blow against the Canyon del Oro Dorados, falling 54-0. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona football rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while the Dorados are ranked 50th).

Bernard Butler threw for 77 yards while completing 87.5% of his passes. Dominic Cordova was his top target, picking up 42 receiving yards. On the ground, Jamere Beck rushed for 34 yards.

As for Canyon del Oro, they now have a winning record of 2-1. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their seven-point performance the matchup before.

Leading Canyon del Oro to victory were Peyton Strang and Brenden Lawrence. Strang threw for 141 yards and two TDs while completing 75% of his passes, while Lawrence rushed for 92 yards and one score on only ten carries. Cody Fimbres made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Coming up, South Mountain will face off against Skyline at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Canyon del Oro, they will challenge Marana at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th. The game will give the Dorados their first taste of in-conference action this season.
