Baseball Recap: Tonopah Valley Comes Up Short

After soaring to ten runs the game before, Tonopah Valley was a bit more limited in their contest on Monday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chino Valley Cougars. The Phoenix were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 12-3.

Connor Hart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Tonopah Valley is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-9-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Caleb Procunier was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Tonopah Valley is 5-1 when Procunier posts three or more hits, but 5-9-1 otherwise.

Tonopah Valley dropped their record down to 10-10-1 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Chino Valley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-10-1.
