Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Mcclatchy's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

McClatchy had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Grant on Thursday. The Lions put the hurt on the Pacers with a sharp 11-4 win. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Lily Arbizo was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI.

In other batting news, Jayeliza Rogers was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Samantha Apostolos, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

McClatchy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

McClatchy is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Grant, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15-1.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. McClatchy is set to square off against their familiar foe Antelope at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Grant will challenge rival Kennedy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
