Baseball Game Preview: Rye Garnets vs. Mendon Vikings

The Rye Garnets will challenge the Mendon Vikings at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Rye is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Sunday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past La Salle Institute 6-4. Winning may never get old, but the Garnets sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Meanwhile, Mendon never let their opponents score on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Amherst Central 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vikings have posted since May 7th.

Not much got past Cam Barbulean, who gave up just a hit and racked up 16 Ks to keep Amherst Central off the board. Barbulean has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Samuel Harrigan, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Mendon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive games.

Mendon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Rye, their record now sits at 23-4.
