Basketball Game Preview: Heritage Hawks vs. Holy Spirit Prep Cougars

The Heritage Hawks will face off against the Holy Spirit Prep Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Heritage has eight straight wins, Holy Spirit Prep has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Monday, Heritage humbled Galloway with a 75-40 victory. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 34 points or more this season.

Heritage can attribute much of their success to Makari Townsend, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 boards, and Barron Ofosu-Kwarteng, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine assists. The dominant performance gave Townsend a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Mead, who went 6 for 13 on his way to 14 points.

Heritage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They are 4-1 when they hit their own glass that hard.

Meanwhile, Holy Spirit Prep was beaten by Furtah Prep 81-34 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 515th, while the Falcons are ranked 127th).

Heritage is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.9 points per game. As for Holy Spirit Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.

Everything came up roses for Heritage against Holy Spirit Prep when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the squad secured an 84-29 victory. In that game, Heritage amassed a halftime lead of 47-4, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
