Baseball Recap: Newfield Victorious

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Newfield and Copiague, and Newfield kept the tradition alive. The Wolverines walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Eagles on Tuesday. The Wolverines have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Eagles, too.

Cayden Nikodem spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Newfield is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-6 otherwise.

At the plate, Caiden Davis was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Churillo, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Newfield's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Copiague, they dropped their record down to 4-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Newfield will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday.
