Softball Game Preview: Eastern Eagles vs. Daviess County Panthers

The Eastern Eagles will take on the Daviess County Panthers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Eastern 3.6, Daviess County 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Eastern is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kentucky's top teams: Highlands, who was ranked 25th at the time (Eastern was ranked 16th). The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Bluebirds 5-4 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Daviess County). They put the hurt on Owensboro with a sharp 20-5 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 13 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Daviess County got a massive performance out of Annie Newman, who fired off two home runs, eight RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-2. Those eight RBI gave Newman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Molly Hancock, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

Daviess County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .412 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Eastern's record is now 22-6. As for Daviess County, their record now sits at 19-2.

Eastern couldn't quite finish off Daviess County in their previous matchup back in April of 2018 and fell 2-0. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
