Basketball Recap: Crystal River Pirates vs. Dixie County Bears
The Crystal River Pirates were the 65-58 winner over the Dixie County Bears when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Crystal River took a hard 63-49 fall against the Bears on Friday.
When it comes to explaining why Crystal River lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ej Jenkins. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Jenkins has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Zachary Hamilton, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Crystal River's loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Dixie County, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Crystal River will square off against the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Florida (Weeki Wachee is ranked 597th, while the Pirates are ranked 577th). As for Dixie County, they will square off against the Wildcats at TBD on Tuesday. Wildwood is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
