Basketball Game Preview: Jay Mustangs vs. Wagner Thunderbirds

The Jay Mustangs will face off against the Wagner Thunderbirds at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Jay comes in on four and Wagner on 21.

Jay is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They breezed past Brackenridge to the tune of 50-19. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 18 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Ny'Ashia Barnes was her usual excellent self, going 6-for-13 en route to 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Gutierrez, who posted 14 points.

Jay smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Wagner faced Glenn in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, Wagner made off with a 56-55 win over Glenn.

Jay's record now sits at 26-9. As for Wagner, their record is now 30-3.

Jay was taken down by Wagner 74-45 in their previous matchup back in November of 2019. Can Jay avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
