Recap: Walnut Mustangs vs. Rancho Verde Mustangs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Walnut Mustangs can now relate to. They received a tough blow on Wednesday as they fell 66-48 to the Mustangs. While losing is never fun, Walnut can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 286th, while Rancho Verde is ranked 29th).

Walnut's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nathan Yen, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Vasquez, who scored 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Walnut and nudges their season record down to 20-9. As for Rancho Verde, they pushed their record up to 25-4 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Walnut does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Rancho Verde, they will head out on the road to square off against Etiwanda at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
