Softball Preview: Murray Spartans vs. Olympus Titans

The Murray Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Olympus Titans at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Murray came out on top against Park City on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 17-run second inning. The Spartans put the hurt on the Miners with a sharp 20-1 victory. The win was nothing new for the Spartans as they're now sitting on three straight.

Savana Whitlock made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, Maddie Bigelow was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Summer Stewart also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Murray was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .733. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .346 or higher in seven consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Olympus). They were the clear victors by a 22-7 margin over Brighton last Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Titans in their matchups with the Bengals: they've now won seven in a row.

Olympus got a massive performance out of Mya Palcher, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Sydney Birkeland, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and four runs.

Murray's record is now 8-4. As for Olympus, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Murray has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Olympus struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Murray might still be hurting after the 8-2 loss they got from Olympus in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
