Basketball Game Preview: Foothill Trojans vs. Independence Falcons

The Foothill Trojans will venture away from home to take on the Independence Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Foothill will head into Saturday's game out to bounce back: they won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Saturday. They were outmatched by Summit Charter Collegiate Academy and fell 40-11. The matchup marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Independence's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 45-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Roosevelt. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 513th, while the Rough Riders are ranked 145th).

Despite the defeat, Independence saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ka'Rayah Robertson dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Robertson a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Kenadi Walton, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Independence smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.

Foothill's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Independence, they now have a losing record at 5-6.

Foothill came up short against Independence in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 46-33. Can Foothill avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
