Basketball Game Preview: Riverview Pirates vs. Grosse Ile Red Devils

Riverview is 10-0 against Grosse Ile since February of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Riverview Pirates will host the Grosse Ile Red Devils at 5:30 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Last Monday, Riverview came up short against St. Mary Catholic Central and fell 40-27. The game marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Riverview's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Caiya Hunter, who posted nine points and eight steals, and Averi Westbay, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Those eight steals gave Hunter a new career-high. Gracie Urista was another key player, putting up four points.

Meanwhile, Grosse Ile came up short against Huron on Monday, falling 66-42. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 405th, while the Chiefs are ranked 101st).

Grosse Ile has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Riverview, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.

Everything came up roses for Riverview against Grosse Ile when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 60-31 win. In that game, Riverview amassed a halftime lead of 34-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
