Baseball Recap: West Clermont Wins Going Away Against Walnut Hills

West Clermont's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Walnut Hills Eagles with a sharp 9-2 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Wolves as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Gavin Speranza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because West Clermont is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-4 otherwise. Speranza was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.

Speranza wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Stathos, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those four hits gave Stathos a new career-high. Brady Mineer also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

West Clermont hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Walnut Hills struck out eight times.

The win got West Clermont back to even at 5-5. As for Walnut Hills, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-5.

Coming up, West Clermont will challenge Lebanon at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Walnut Hills, they will take on Loveland at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
