The Bayfield Wolverines will head out to square off against the Salida Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bayfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 38 points per game this season.

Last Thursday, Bayfield narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Pagosa Springs 30-28.

Estevan Gonzales was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 50 receiving yards. Those 69 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. James Sandoval also made an appearance on special teams (luckily for Bayfield): his a 45-yard strike wound up winning them the game.

Bayfield wouldn't let Pagosa Springs keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Logan Valencia, Keegan Johnston, and Lincoln Williams picked up one apiece.

Meanwhile, Salida came up short against Montezuma-Cortez on Friday and fell 34-27. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Wyatt Farney, who rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown.

Bayfield's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Salida, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Bayfield beat Salida 27-20 when the teams last played back in October of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Salida's Abram Jones, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries, and also picked up 33 receiving yards.
