Basketball Recap: Khanye Moss' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mater Lakes Academy over Pembroke Pines Charter

Mater Lakes Academy suffered their biggest defeat since January 3, 2024 on Saturday. They came up short against the Pembroke Pines Charter Jaguars, falling 67-46. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 349th, while the Jaguars are ranked 51st).

Several Bears players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Khanye Moss, who posted 22 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Spenkuch, who had 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Pembroke Pines Charter's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maximo Ortega, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Zemari Days, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Mater Lakes Academy and nudges their season record down to 3-10. As for Pembroke Pines Charter, they pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Mater Lakes Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-52 loss against Norland on the 30th. As for Pembroke Pines Charter, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-36 victory against Westminster Christian on the 30th.
