Baseball Game Preview: Tucker County Mountain Lions vs. Tygarts Valley Bulldogs

Tucker County is 0-9-1 against Tygarts Valley since March of 2017 but things could change on Wednesday. The Mountain Lions will head out to square off against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Tucker County came out on top against Trinity Christian on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Mountain Lions walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Warriors.

Meanwhile, Tygarts Valley came tearing into Tuesday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Wildcat a 5-0 shutout.

Jacob Wamsley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

In other batting news, Jaxon Drennen was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Austin Wilson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Tygarts Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in six consecutive matchups.

Tygarts Valley pushed their record up to 15-7 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Tucker County, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-14.

Tucker County might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Tygarts Valley when the teams last played back in April. Can the Mountain Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
